araswati is the Hindu goddess of arts, knowledge and wisdom, and this is a hymn from the ancient Padma Purana (IV° century AD) which is dedicated to her.

The first verses of this sanskrit stotram describe her dressed all in resplendent white – symbol of purity and wisdom – and playing heavenly music on the veena. Meanwhile, the peacock on which she occasionally rides watches nearby. The next verses proceed to ask for her blessings.

stotram is commonly sung in India during openings of ceremonies or business meetings to invoke the blessings of the goddess of wisdom.
