MIRROR
2003

acrylics and aquarelle,
silver leaf and copper powders
on recycled paper.

19 x 24 cm

he background of this Art Nouveau styled painting figures a stained-glass effect blending five different shades of copper powders. The lady holds a silver mask to her face, which acts like a mirror that reflects whosoever looks into it.

The mirror is an ancient symbol of wisdom and knowledge, for it reflects the truth of one's inner heart and conscience.

The symbolism of the mirror is used here to draw attention to the hidden content and the inner truth of what the viewer observes.

For a group exhibit several years ago, every participating artist was asked to paint a self-portrait, whether abstract or not. I chose to represent myself as holding up a mirror for people to see... beyond, to meditate on the inner meaning of things.
